Choosing a university is one of the first significant decisions in a young person's life. Every August, after the national high school graduation examination, thousands of students begin exploring universities, comparing academic programs, and preparing for enrollment. Beyond selecting an institution, they are choosing the environment that will shape their thinking, develop their capabilities, and influence the trajectory of their future careers.
Many applicants naturally focus on admission scores, tuition fees, or campus location. These factors certainly matter. Yet in a rapidly evolving economy, perhaps a more meaningful question deserves attention: What kind of world will today's students enter after graduation?
A decade ago, business expansion often meant opening new stores, building distribution networks, and recruiting larger sales teams. Today, companies can reach millions of customers through digital platforms without operating a single physical outlet. Local brands can access international markets, while small and medium-sized enterprises can compete globally by leveraging data, technology, and customer insights.
The transformation goes far beyond the way products are sold. It is fundamentally reshaping the nature of commerce itself.
Modern organizations increasingly seek professionals who understand not only business principles but also digital ecosystems. They need people who can analyze customer data, manage e-commerce operations, integrate marketing with logistics, connect domestic and international markets, and apply artificial intelligence to support strategic decision-making. These capabilities are becoming critical sources of competitive advantage for both organizations and individuals.
For this reason, choosing a university major should not simply be about selecting a field of study. It should be about identifying a learning environment that equips students with the ability to adapt, innovate, and grow throughout a rapidly changing professional landscape.
Within this context, E-commerce and Commercial Business are no longer emerging disciplines; they are becoming essential components of modern business education. Their value lies not in teaching students how to use a particular digital platform, but in helping them understand how markets evolve, how businesses create value, and how technology continues to redefine commerce on a global scale.
At the Faculty of International Commerce, School of Business, Van Hien University, academic programs are designed with these transformations in mind. Students are encouraged to develop analytical thinking, problem-solving skills, data literacy, interdisciplinary collaboration, and a commitment to lifelong learning alongside their professional knowledge in commerce, e-commerce, logistics, and digital business.
Ultimately, a university education should offer more than disciplinary knowledge. It should cultivate the mindset and capabilities required to navigate uncertainty, embrace continuous change, and create meaningful value throughout one's career.
August is the season of important decisions. Choosing a university is not simply about deciding what to study today. It is about choosing the kind of future you are preparing yourself to build.
